Unleashed -Our Book
When I first came to England to work my locum agency said they loved Kiwis as we were so adaptable they could send us anywhere. And send me anywhere and everywhere they did. I wrote letters home to my father about my adventures, and he would reply with remarks such as “Could you go back to that practice where you went running with the Nigerian drugs dealers? Where you are this week seems very tame...your mother prefers the stories from the last one.”
After a bad accident where I was off work for nearly a year, and was all metalled up and remodelled, it looked for a while like I might not be able to work again as a vet. To fight the blackness that fell I went back to university and did an English degree, and a Philosophy degree. Apart from discovering a huge passion for Early Modern literature, and Philosophy of any sort, I found I just loved writing stories, essays, anything.
I started composing short stories for my family, then my professors, and then for other vets. I was so broke, I sent my stories off to anywhere that would pay and the Vet Times started publishing them. Thank you Jackie! I made lots of new vet friends, as vets so love stories about other vets having bad days at work, or even better good days that are insane. Being a vet is the best job in the world, in my opinion. There cannot be anything better in the world than making animals feel better, and preventing their suffering. And vets and vet nurses are the most brilliant, crazy wonderful collection of human animals to be with.
So, I thought I might share stories I have about the people I think are the greatest people on earth.
My best paddling mate and dog lover did the art work.
